Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says the government remains committed to providing relief to the low-income class amidst rising fuel prices. He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad today to review progress on the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the fact that more than 7.5 million citizens have benefited from the scheme in a short period. He said citizens are benefiting from the fuel subsidy due to timely measures. The Prime Minister appreciated the performance of the entire government team for effectively implementing the fuel subsidy scheme. He said the fuel subsidy scheme is an excellent example of cooperation and joint efforts across the entire government machinery. The Prime Minister said the robust database developed through this scheme will also be utilized to benefit citizens in the future. On the occasion, the Prime Minister was briefed that over 8.4 million individuals have registered under the scheme, while more than 7.5 million have benefited from it so far. The Public Affairs Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office and public representatives are assisting citizens with registration. Implementation of the scheme is underway across 129 districts countrywide and all petrol pumps are facilitating citizens. A round-the-clock call centre has been established to provide guidance to citizens and petrol pump owners. Since the launch of the scheme on the 15th of last month, 12.2 million tokens have been issued, out of which 10.3 million have been used. The scheme aims to provide fuel subsidy to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
