Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik has called for stronger cooperation between Pakistan and Germany in green startups, sustainable innovation and scientific research to develop climate-friendly solutions. Speaking at a ceremony marking the Day of German Unity, Malik said Pakistan wanted to benefit from Germany’s innovation ecosystem to promote green entrepreneurship and develop sustainable solutions with global potential. “We want to do a startup revolution, all things green, all things sustainable,” he said, stressing the need to help young researchers and innovators transform their ideas into viable businesses rather than rely solely on grants. The minister said Pakistan faced serious environmental challenges, particularly floods, making innovative and sustainable solutions essential. He noted that joint initiatives could help address domestic challenges while creating opportunities for international expansion. Malik described Germany as one of Pakistan’s closest partners and its largest trading partner, emphasising the need to strengthen bilateral economic and trade relations. He said Pakistan was committed to meeting the requirements for retaining its GSP Plus status and demonstrating compliance with the relevant standards. Reflecting on German reunification, he said the country’s unity demonstrated the enduring power of popular will, solidarity and mutual respect. The minister also highlighted historical and cultural ties between the two countries, recalling Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s association with Heidelberg and his engagement with the works of German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He also paid tribute to German-born Dr Ruth Pfau for dedicating her life to combating leprosy and serving affected communities in Pakistan. Conveying greetings on behalf of the prime minister, Malik congratulated Germany on the occasion and commended its peaceful reunification. He noted that October 15 marked the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-Germany relations, describing the milestone as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in sustainability, research, innovation and humanitarian affairs. The minister expressed hope that closer collaboration in green entrepreneurship and scientific research would create new opportunities for young innovators and advance sustainable development in both countries.
