Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed federal ministries and departments to accelerate work on ongoing development projects in Gilgit-Baltistan and ensure timely release of funds to complete them. In Novermber 2024, Shehbaz Sharif had announced a 100 megawatts solar power project for Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to address the region\u2019s persistent power shortages. Chairing a meeting to review progress on federal development initiatives in the region, the prime minister stressed the need to remove bottlenecks on a priority basis and improve coordination among relevant institutions to speed up implementation. Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain attended the meeting via video link, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister\u2019s Office. The meeting reviewed a report by a committee established in July 2026 on the status of ongoing federal development projects, obstacles to their implementation and measures required to ensure their timely completion. Progress on hydropower projects, infrastructure development and solar energy initiatives in the region also came under discussion. Shehbaz directed the authorities to expedite the completion of a 100-megawatt solar power project launched by the federal government for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. The meeting also discussed completion of the Naltar Power Project, strengthening counterterrorism capabilities and the installation of digital infrastructure. The prime minister said the development of Gilgit-Baltistan, provision of basic facilities and improvement in the living standards of its people remained among the federal government\u2019s priorities. He called for regular monitoring of development schemes, particularly energy projects, to ensure that residents could benefit from them as soon as possible. The meeting also paid tribute to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, who will mark November 1 as the historic day of liberation from Dogra rule and subsequent \u2018accession\u2019 to Pakistan. Shehbaz is expected to visit the region on November 1 to mark the occasion. Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Abdul Aleem Khan, Musadik Malik, Attaullah Tarar, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Awais Leghari along with the prime minister\u2019s advisers Rana Sanaullah and Muhammad Ali and relevant government officials attended the meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
