A Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officer was martyred and two others injured after a powerful explosion ripped through a CTD police station in Peshawar on Sunday. According to Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mian Saeed, the initial investigation indicates that the blast originated in the station\u2019s armoury, likely triggered by a short circuit that ignited old explosives stored at the site. \u201cThe explosion seems to have occurred when decades-old explosive material in the armoury detonated,\u201d the CCPO stated. He added that the resulting fire spread rapidly, setting off further explosions as additional munitions caught fire. The impact caused part of the building to collapse, leading to the martyrdom of one CTD officer and injuring two others. \u201cAll detainees have been safely evacuated from the lock-up,\u201d Saeed confirmed, noting that the incident does not appear to be an act of terrorism. Soon after the explosion, police and rescue teams rushed to the scene. The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU), Rescue 1122, and fire brigade personnel began a joint operation to extinguish the fire and clear the area of remaining explosives. \u201cThe clearance operation is still underway,\u201d CCPO Saeed added. KP IGP Zulfikar Ahmed has taken notice of the incident and directed the Additional IGP CTD to submit a detailed report within five days, the police spokesperson said. Meanwhile, a special CTD investigation team visited the site to investigate the incident and collect forensic evidence. \u201cThe special investigation unit, led by SSP CTD, is on-site and has gathered initial evidence,\u201d said police officials. Teams from the BDU and CTD were also present, assisting in collecting materials from the debris. \u201cWe are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to determine the sequence of events,\u201d police said.
